Everyone who bowls in a league at Georgian Bowl must be a member of the Ontario 5 Pin Bowlers Association (O5PBA). The association is currently made up of 15 zones and 35 “Decentralized” or House Associations. We are in the Huronia Zone, Blue Mountain Association.
Each league has its own executive usually consisting of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary, although not always. If there are any specific questions they should be directed to a member of the executive from the league that you bowl on.
Blue Mountain Association also has an executive. The 2009/10 members are:
Proprietors - Trevor Hanley, Lee Hanley, and Aaron Hanley
President - Paul Hewitt
Vice President – Neil Anderson
Secretary – Scott Fryer
Treasurer – Gail Keith
Membership – Keith Tippin
Record Scores – Pat Kloos
Awards – Neil Anderson
Publicity – Cindy Anderson
Tournament Director – Paul Hewitt
Fundraising/Lottery – Dave Logan
Member at Large – Rob Keith
There is a bulletin board by lane 1 for use by the leagues. The season’s bowling schedule is posted there for each league, as well as weekly results. It is also used for correspondence such as the “Code of Conduct”. All bowlers are urged to read this and follow it.
To the right of that, you will see “King of the Lanes” and “Queen of the Lanes” boards. The top 6 scores, over 300, are added to the boards for everyone to marvel in the awesome bowling!
There are various tournaments throughout the year. All league bowlers are automatically entered, with results being tracked by the league secretaries. Should you qualify to move onto the next round you will be notified. You are not obligated to participate in subsequent rounds, but it is encouraged. These tournaments usually take place on Sunday mornings. You will have the chance to meet bowlers from other leagues, and maybe from other zones should you move on again. You also have the chance to win trips & cash prizes!! Since most tournaments are based on ‘pins over average’ everyone has a chance to win.
New for 2009/10
A 5 year rolling average for tournaments. If you have not been bowling for 5 years then the average of the number of years you have been bowling will be used.
This newsletter will be posted on the bulletin board at the back of the ally.
Check back to this site often. It's dedicated solely to our association, and will be updated on a regular basis.
You can also choose to receive the newsletter by email. Simply email Cindy Anderson, Publicity Chair and put “newsletter” in the subject line. Please include your name and the league you bowl on.
Two bowling teams, one of all Blondes and one of all Brunettes, charter a double-decker bus for a weekend bowling tournament in Toronto. The Brunette team rides in the bottom of the bus. The Blonde team rides on the top level. The Brunette team down below is whooping it up having a great time, when one of them realizes she doesn't hear anything from the Blondes upstairs.
She decides to go up and investigate. When the Brunette reaches the top, she finds all the Blondes frozen in fear, staring straight-ahead at the road, and clutching the seats in front of them with white knuckles.
She says, "What the heck's goin' on up here? We're havin' a grand time downstairs!" One of the Blondes looks up and says, "Yeah, but you've got a driver!"
Did you know that 5-Pin Bowling is Canadian? It is celebrating it's 100th anniversary in 2009!
